Nipissing University is pleased to announce their new Schulich Scholarship to support future math and science educators.

Schulicih Scholarships in Science and Education are presented to select students admitted to the Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree at Nipissing University with a focus in education (BSc with Concurrent Education or Orientation to Teaching). 100 scholarships are available with a value of $5000 each. Recipients must have a minimum 75 per cent average in their best six 4U/4M final grades and demonstrate strong academic achievement, community volunteerism and financial need. An application is required.

The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) is challenging students to use their creativity and writing skills to submit a flash fiction story that addresses the risks associated with teen gambling. Two scholarships will be awarded for the best flash fiction story – $1,00 for 1st place and $500 for 2nd place. The scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2010. PLAYERS – COACHES – TRAINERS – OFFICIALS

 

The Ontario Hockey Federation Bursary Program was established to provide financial assistance to registered participants including players, coaches, trainers, and officials to help offset the cost of post secondary education. All students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a Canadian post secondary institution are eligible to receive bursary funds.

Ontario Hostelry Institute is offering 8 College Entrance Awards to Ontario high school students graduating this year. Applicants must be enrolled in any of the following minimum two-year foodservice-hospitality diploma programs at the Ontario community colleges: Culinary, Hotel, Tourism, Food and Beverage, Hospitality, Resort, or Event Management. Vittoria & District Foundation Scholarship Program is intended to recognize achievement and provide financial assistance to students of Vittoria and district entering their first year of post-secondary education at a university or a community college. A $2500.00 scholarship will be awarded. Applicants will have obtained an average of 75% or better in their six highest final grade academic courses and must have completed the last year of schooling required for admission to university or community college in not more than two years. Deadline is July 17, 2009. See the Guidance Office for application packages.

This scholarship will be $200.00 in value given to a student who is continuing with post-secondary school studies in agriculture. Forms are in the Guidance Office and applications are due by June 5, 2009.

Application packages have arrived for the 2009 Leighton and Betty Brown Conservation Scholarships of up to (3) $1000 scholarships for graduating students.  Eligibility requirements are as follows:

•    must reside within the Long Point Region watershed
•    currently attending final year of high school
•    maintained a strong academic average
•    demonstrated a record of participation, leadership or volunteerism in the promotion of conservation awareness and the environment in our local watershed
•    will be entering first year of full-time, undergrad studies in a Canadian university or college
•    post secondary program must be in conservation or environmental related course of study, eg. Foresty, biology, geography, geology, fish and wildlife, ecology, environmental engineering
•    not an employee or immediate family member of employees or directors of the Long Point Region Conversation Authority

You must include a resume, transcript of your academic records, a cover letter, and a completed application form.  This package must be submitted before Friday, May 29, 2009.  Check out www.lprca.on.ca.

This year, Monsanto Canada estimates it will provide approximately 60 scholarships to deserving high school students across the country entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture or forestry.  Each scholarship is valued at $1,500 to students who meet the following criteria:

Students must be from an agricultural or forestry family farming operation with plans to enter their first year of post-secondary education in agricultural sciences or forestry;

Students must have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities and active involvement in their local community;

Complete applications, including an application essay, must be post-marked no later than May 15, 2009.
